Jeff Franklin grew up in Inglewood, California. While attending Raymond College at the University of the Pacific, Jeff formed an acting troupe, The Chartreuse Moose Players. He wrote, directed and starred in several avant-garde musical-comedies. Jeff returned to Los Angeles and age 23, landed a job as a staff writer on the #1 TV series Laverne & Shirley. By age 24, he was the showrunner. Next came a stint writing and producing the show that launched Tom Hanks, Bosom Buddies.
In the mid-80’s, Jeff wrote and produced two hit teen comedy movies Just One of the Guys, and Summer School directed by the legendary Carl Reiner. He also wrote and produced the groundbreaking series It’s Garry Shandling’s Show. Jeff was just getting started.
In 1986, Jeff was developing a sitcom called House of Comics, about three young stand-up comedians sharing a place in Los Angeles. ABC was looking for a family show. Jeff made one of the guys a widower with three young daughters and kept the three roommates idea: a comic, a sports reporter, and a rocker. Three of his own loves stitched into one San Francisco living room. He wrote the show, cast it, brought it to life. Plus Jeff co-wrote the iconic theme song, “Everywhere You Look.” Full House became a #1 show that ran eight seasons and became a permanent part of the culture that has entertained families worldwide for four decades.
Jeff created the hit series Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper in 1992. The same year, he co-wrote and directed the first Olsen twins movie — To Grandmother’s House We Go. Next, he was the showrunner for the UPN hit series Malcolm & Eddie. Writer-director of the indie cult comedy feature Love Stinks. Executive Producer of the long-running sitcom Love that Girl! Then in 2016, Jeff brought the Tanner family back as the creator and showrunner of Netflix’s hit comedy Fuller House — the original cast and a new generation coming together back in the house that was already home.
In a world that is often dark and confusing, watching Full House is nostalgic comfort food that makes you laugh and feel good.
